World Cancer Day to be observed

CCSP planning programmes to mark the occasion

Visakha City, February 3, 2010

The Centre for Cancer Screening and Prevention (CCSP) has planned programmes to mark the World Cancer Day on Thursday. According to the Director, CCSP and Medical Officer in charge K Santha Kumari said that an awareness walk will be conducted from RK Beach to VUDA Park at 3.30pm on the day. World Cancer Day is globally observed on February 4 to help rise people's awareness of cancer and how to prevent, detect it.

CCSP is conducting a cancer awareness talk at its premises at Rotary Community Centre Building, near Kalabharati Auditorium at Pithapuram Colony at 3pm on Friday. It will conduct cancer screening tests for women at a discount from February 5 to 27 and those around 40 years of age may utilize the opportunity.

The World Cancer Campaign theme is 'Cancer can be prevented to', with focus on the link between infections and cancer. Nearly 20 percent cases can be attributed to viral and bacterial infections that either directly cause or increase the risk of cancer says Dr. Santha Kumari. This year's campaign intends to increase awareness on the contribution of infections to the global burden.
