Religious structures to be shifted in consultation with locals
VUDA Office, January 12, 2010
The formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to run the Bus Rapid Transit System will be formalized by February 15. The SPV comprises GVMC, RTC and VUDA. Though, the SPV had been formed on paper, getting down to work had become imperative as the work on the two corridors was going on at a good pace. GVMC Commissioner VN Vishnu speaking to media said that the constituents have to contribute a corpus of Rs.1 crore each to the SPV.
On the ongoing work on the corridors, he said religious structures would be shifted in consultation with local people. A Sub Station on the Adavivaram corridor is being shifted on turnkey basis. He saw scope for the two BRTS corridors to become model ones with the picturesque Simhachalam hill and reserve forest abutting them. Some of the grievances received on Monday related to the compensation of land of TDR in the BRTS work.
Vishnu said that the latest report released from the District Collector stated that the urban population 27.8 percent now was estimated to increase to 39.94 percent. With the Anadapuram-Anakapalli road proposed for six laning, once the Roads and Buildings Department got approval for its part of the Bheemili-Visakhapatnam road connectivity would vastly improve and extending BRTS corridor from Adavivaram to Gopalapatnam would complete a circular route. He said that a proposal to utilize abandoned tanks had been discussed with the Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and a detailed project report will be sent to the government soon.
