VN Vishnu takes charge as Commissioner of GVMC

Pledges to take forward Government Schemes

On Saturday, VN Vishnu took charge as Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal corporation from B Sridhar who has been posted as Vice Chairman of VUDA. At a formal ceremony, B Sridhar handed over the charge to VN Vishnu in the Commissioner's chambers of the GVMC and Sridhar will take the charge as Vice Chairman of VUDA tomorrow.

Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu said the commitment of political leaders and officials of the GVMC and the stake holders play major role in providing best services to the people. Civic amenities top the agenda of the the GVMC and his past experience would help to ensure them, he said. GVMC, the second largest Corporation in the State has been providing various civic amenities and introducing various welfare schemes to the poor. The Corporation would give top priority in drinking water supply and under ground drainage facility under JNNURM, he further said.

He said that under the leadership of Sridhar, the GVMC bagged two national awards for the Basic Services for Urban Poor and Pro-poor Reforms in 2009 and expressed optimism that in future also the GVMC will continue to bag more national awards. He said the GVMC would continue the welfare programmes and speed up the ongoing BRTS, flyover at Asilmetta junction and housing schemes at various places. He added that the transparency, accountability and co-ordination among the officials and corporators of GVMC would play a vital role for the development of Visakhapatnam.
