Commissioner of Police appeal the supporters to be peaceful
Visakha City, January 3, 2010
The City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao on Sunday said rallies and dharnas were banned in the city following imposition of restrictions under Section 30 of Indian Police Act. Appealing to the supporters on Monday's bandh to be peaceful and not take law into their own hands, he said the police had deployed additional forces to ensure law and orders.
He said that anyone found forcing closure of shops and establishments would be arrested, he said and the police also took some rowdy sheet holders into custody under preventive arrest. The Commissioner said that they had received umpteen complaints that the bandhs had put them into inconvenience. In an oblique reference to the attack on HSBC call centre, he said forces would be deployed at all vulnerable spots and asked the people to call the nearest police station or control room if any need any help.
He said permission for rallies and meetings could be obtained from his office or DCP (Law and Order). Movement in two wheeler rallies by the bandh supporters would not be allowed, he said. Referring to the rail roko on January 5, he said forces would be deployed at Gopalapatnam, Kancharapalem and other areas where generally rail blockades were conducted. He said that let the protest be made in a peaceful and democratic manner.
