The city police on Thursday conducted a raid on Chalasani Prasad Rao's house in the city reportedly to nab AP Civil Liberties district secretary Sugunatham. According to sources, a troop of more than six police personnel rounded off the house of Chalasani , a member of Revolutionary Writers Association in the HB Colony of the city on Thursday morning and launched search operation, albeit without search warrant.

Though the police claimed that the search was done to nab APCLC district secretary Sugunatham, many believe that they targetted Chalasani, who has been actively supporting APCLC and opposing the inhuman acts of the police in the agency areas under the grab of combing operations. Unable to find either Chalasani or Sugunatham, the police left the place after almost one hour of search operation, creating quite a flutter in otherwise peaceful residential colony.

Meanwhile, various people's organizations have questioned the authority of the police to conduct the raid without a search warrant, which is the normal procedure. The Human Rights Forum has also complained to the III Town Police for unnecessarily creating panic among the people by conducting a raid in a residential area without a search warrant and also raised doubts over the presence of the police for more than one hour at Chalasani's house though they could not find what they wanted.
