SIT receives 852 complaints on land scam

The Special Investigation Team has so far received 852 complaints in the district on the land scam.

Speaking to media on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, T.Yoganand said of the 852 complaints received so far, 374 pertained to disputes between two private parties, 294 related to negligence by authorities concerned, 199 were of cases where private parties had encroached or had some dispute over government land and 30 pertained to disputed sites that were to be studied.

The three member SIT comprised Vineet Brijlal, DIG (Greyhounds), G.Srijana, Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam and Lanka Vijay Sarathi, Deputy Executive Officer of TTD was formed to look into the cases of land grabbing.

Vineet Brijlal said ‘though we are taking all sorts of complaints, our area of focus is to inquire and identify persons who have committed tampering of land records to benefit land sharks’. As of now Visakhapatnam (Rural) headed the list of complaints with 183 complaints followed by Gajuwaka 106, Bheemunipatnam 102, Pendurti 84, Anandapuram 53, Parawada 43 and Anakapalli 40.

The SIT will receive complaints till July 15 and leaders and political parties can approach the SIT till July 20, said the Commissioner of Police. He said the even before the SIT could begin the inquiry, an FIR was filed against 30 persons for alleged land scam pertaining to about 278 acres of land in Madhurawada and Kommadi. Now, the figure had gone up to 47 and the extent of land had also increased to 349 acres.
