Following a dharna by students of Sanskrit Department alleging sexual harassment against girl students by Head of the Department of Sanskrit, Andhra University Yedukondalu, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao today asked the Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao to constitute a committee and initiate inquiry into the allegations.

The students staged a protest in front of the department on Monday and demanded immediate action against the professor. They alleged that Prof.Yedukondalu would pass snide remarks against girls and use provocative gestures while talking to them even in classroom. Students said that he would indulge in double entendre to harass the girl students. They alleged that the professor had gone to the extent of asking sexual favours in return for good marks and covering up minor attendance shortage, alleged.

Students said that ‘he would not hesitate to use phrases such as ‘I like you’ or ‘I love you’ and would ask us to come to his room in private for special classes’, said a PG girl student.

Registrar V.Umamaheswara Rao said a committee would be formed after the three day AP Science Congress that is set to begin on Tuesday.
