The Dredging Corporation of India employees went on a lightning strike on Tuesday in protest against the decision of the Union Cabinet for sale of government equity of 73.47%.

The employees raised slogans against the Centre’s decision for privatisation of the profit making category-I mini ratna company and did not allow Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Tripati, Director (Finance) S.Charles and other officials to go into the office located in the port area.

The employees included executives staged a day-long sit-in- in front of the main gate bringing the functioning of the head office to a standstill. They waved banners and placards and raised slogans to press for saving DCI.

DCI non-Executive Employees’ Union honorary president V.S.Padmanabha Raju said the employees took mass casual leave on Tuesday and decided to intensify their strike if the NDA Government did not withdraw its decision. He said that they would go on strike from December 16 if the decision was not shelved.
