Petrol pumps call off strike

The one-day proposed strike by the petrol and diesel dealers has been called off. The nationwide strike was scheduled for October 13 but was called off on Wednesday. President of Vizag Petrol Dealers Association said that the officials from Oil Marketing Committee were in touch with them and considering the present economic condition, the strike was called off, he said.

Siva Sivani student wins gold medal

Ch.V.S.S.Reshma, student of X of Siva Sivani Public School has bagged the gold medal in 21st National Lawn Tennis Tournament conducted by Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate. The tournament was held at Agra on October 8 and 9. She represented the combined States of AP and Telangana.

Lawyers to boycott courts on Thursday

Advocates will boycott courts on Thursday in the city in protest against the brutal attack on one of their colleagues B.K.V.Ramani in Vijayawada recently. In an extraordinary general body meeting of Visakhapatnam Bar Association on Wednesday, president P.Balakrishna explained the reasons for boycotting the court and urged the members to cooperate to express solidarity with the injured lady advocate who was attacked while discharging her duties as lawyer.

Maoists blast cell tower

The banned CPI(Maoists) today allegedly blasted the BSNL cell tower at Darakonda area under GK Veedhi police station limits. Sources said that a group of armed Maoists including militia members moved into the Darakonda area and blasted the equipment of cell tower and fled from the spot. Police sources said that the action was aimed to disturb the communication system. GK Veedhi is considered to be a Maoist hot bed.
