Nannapaneni Rajakumari demands suspension of the Sanskrit Professor

AP Women’s Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari today visited the Sanskrit Department of Andhra University to inquire into the alleged sexual harassment of women PG students and research scholars by the Head of the Department K.Yedukondalu.

After interacting with the students, she said that ‘I do not understand how the accused professor of involved in so many allegations was given a bail within 24 hours and is still sitting in his room. The students alleged that the accused professor was harassing them by making lewd comments and pressurise them for sexual favours.

It may be recalled that the III Town Police arrested the professor based on a complaint by students under Sections 354-A and 509 of IPC. He was left off on the same day after being arrested. Rajakumari said that the professor should be suspended immediately or told to go on leave till the report was submitted by the committees. It may be recalled that the University has set up two committees to inquire into the allegations and at the same time the District Local Complaints Committee also took up an independent inquiry.

It may be recalled that Andhra University Professor Yedukondalu arrested and released on the same day of arrest.
