MR vaccination drive from today to cover 10.75 lakh children

A month long ‘measles and rubella vaccination’ campaign will be launched today on Tuesday to cover 10.75 lakh children.

District Medical and Health Officer (in-charge) R.Ramesh said that the aim was to administer the vaccine the 10.75 lakh children between the age group of nine months and 15 years. The drive would cover rural, tribal and urban areas in the district. He said that the Union Government has taken up the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination drive to bring down the number of deaths due to viral infections through the drive, he said.

Trained Auxiliary Nurse Midwives will be visiting more than 4,000 government schools and 1,200 private schools in the district to administer the vaccine to the targeted groups said Dr.Ramesh. He said apart from schools, vaccination facility is also available at Anganwadi centres, PHCs, government hospitals and 24 Mukhymantri Arogya Kendras.

The MR awareness rally will be organized on the Beach Road and District Collector Pravin Kumar would flag of the campaign.
