Andhra University Campus, February 6, 2010
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of 'Samaikya Andhra All University Students' will take out a peace padayatra from Srikakulam to Tirupati on Monday to oppose bifurcation of the State. JAC convener A Mahesh and joint conveners told to media persons on Saturday that their main aim was to educate the people particularly farmers on the implications of bifurcation. The JAC convener said that the people would be motivated to vent out their feelings before the Justice Srikrishna committee once its terms of reference were finalized.
Seven students will take part in the padayatra. In all 500 students will start from Srikakulam and the number will swell once it reaches Chittoor district. The yatra will cover ten districts of Seema Andhra in one month. Mahesh said that the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram had already opined in a book that he was in favour of smaller states.
He said that they would intensify united AP Agitation if the terms of reference were found to be prejudiced towards granting statehood to Telangana. Expressing concern over loss of studies due to the ongoing agitation, he said there was an urgent need to restore normalcy.
