After many twists and turns for one day, concrete steps were taken on Saturday towards investigation into the alleged rape of tribal women by police personnel at Balliguda village of Munchingput mandal in the district. A team of doctors conducted medical tests on the victims at the King George Hospital (KGH).

A couple of days ago, the women had lodged a complaint in Paderu police station saying they were raped on January 22 by police personnel of a special police party. They were sent to the KGH for medical check up in connection with the case, the women refused to cooperate. Instead, they recorded a statement retracting their allegation and saying that they had filed the complaint at the bidding of a local political and some others. Three of the four victims underwent the medical examination yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights and other people's organization smelt a rat and stepped in. They alleged that the hapless women had been coerced by the police personnel into retracting their charge. Following this, the women on Saturday reportedly underwent the tests and the samples will be sent to Hyderabad said the Superintendent of Police, Vineet Brijlal.
