Transport Department to go for a mega recruitment drive soon

Transport Ministry in draft preparation mode to fill nearly 23,000 posts

At a press conference, the Minister for Transport S Vijaya Ramaraju said that the Transport Ministry will launch a mega recruitment drive soon to fill up several vacant posts from clerical to officer level and a notification to this effect will be released soon. He said that the ministry is preparing a draft plan to fill up nearly 23,000 vacancies across the state. Speaking about the losses of the APSRTC, the minister lamented that the corporation was facing a loss of nearly 100 crore besides the properties damaged during the recent political unrest in the State.

The online system which aims at preventing the middlemen in providing driving license is being strictly implementing, he said. He added that it was inevitable to increase the bus ticket rates as the APSRTC had to pay the revised 24 per cent fitment to its employees. The Minister reviewed transport department's activities in four districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari and took updates on the newly increased life time tax on three and four wheelers from nine to 12 and 14 percent.

According to revised norms of the government, the vehicles pried at Rs.10 lakh and above will have to pay Rs.14 percent tax while vehicles priced below Rs.10 lakhs have to pay 12 percent tax. The Principal Secretary of Transport K Ratna Prabha said the nonverbal test to obtain driving licence has been designed specially for the illiterate people and was the first of its kind in the country.
