Telgi sent to jail for 5 years in connection with Stamp paper scam

The kingpin of the multi crore-stamp paper, Abdul Karim Telgi was on Wednesday convicted by the second additional sessions judge in Visakhapatnam awarding him a sentence of 5 years of rigorous imprisonment.

A case was registered at the IV Town police station in the city a few years ago after a complaint filed by one Nalla Appala Raju. The case was booked under Sections 258, 259, 260,420 and 120B of IPC besides Section 69B of the Indian Stamp Act.

With the case coming up for hearing on Wednesday, Telgi was brought from the Central Jail in Bangalore by Visakhapatnam police and presented before the court. Telgi pleaded and said he was ready to accept any punishment that the court would award him in the case. The judge read out the sentence in the afternoon and also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs.1,000 each for all the sections that he was implicated under.
