Hundreds of students of various colleges in the city took out a rally to promote the concept of road safety among the people as part of the National Road Safety Week celebrations on Saturday. The rally was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S Sai Baba at Gandhi statue near GVMC at 4pm. The students holding banners and placards on safe driving and against drunken driving passed through thorough fares and reached the starting point.
The City Police have imposed Section 30 of the Police Act as such rallies and dharnas without police permission are banned in the city on January 4 and 5. Those who plan rallies have to obtain permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order KVV Gopala Rao or the Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao.
He said that action will be initiated against those who take out rallies or organize other forms of protests without prior permission according to the Police Commissioner.
