Seminar on Eastern Seaboard in the new millennium held

A national seminar on the topic - Eastern Seaboard in the new millennium - Challenges and Opportunities was organized by the National Maritime Foundation, Visakhapatnam Regional Chapter.
Speaking on the occasion, Former Chief of Naval Staff and the Chairman of the National Maritime Foundation (NMF) Admiral Arun Prakash said that the federation will take up the task of investigating, retrieving and documenting the glorious history of Indian maritime so that it can be passed to future generations. He pointed out that India is gaining strength and is becoming one of the key global maritime force with the recent acquisitions of nuclear submarines and air craft carries. He said that these acquisitions made other nations to see and project India as a key force.
Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Anup Singh gave an insightful presentation that reminded us of the need to focus on the Eastern side because of the continental shelf and naturally deep harbors. With growth rates of 9 to 10 percent despite the economic depression, he said that the maritime industry will be a vital component for the Indian economy. He said there is precious oil and gas to be tapped in the region.
RVR Chandrasekhara Rao, former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University, Professor C Somasundara Rao, Professor P Vijayaprakash, Professor A Prasanna Kumar, P K Bishnoi, J Purnachandra Rao, Naresh Kumar, SS Tripathi and others spoke and interacted on the occasion. Renowned Maritime Engineer K Parthasarathy was felicitated on the occasion.
