Lepakshi sets ambitious target

Aims for Rs.60 crore businesses in the next financial year

The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation has set itself an ambitious target of achieving Rs.60 crore business in the next financial year. At a press conference after the inauguration of the Lepakshi craft exhibition at Viswapriya Function Hall on Friday, the Lepakshi Emporium manager Jagan Mohan Rao said that the corporation had achieved a turnover of Rs.50 crores in 2009-10.

Deputy Mayor K Dorabbayee who inaugurated the exhibition said that the corporation would lend support to the artisans of the region to preserve the age-old crafts of Andhra Pradesh. More than 80 artisans from Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country have displayed their creations at the exhibition. The exhibition has an impressive range of handlooms. Kalamkari with its lucid and colourful depiction of the epics and landscapes is available in different varieties in the exhibition.

Materials in a range of soothing colors in soft cottons are available. For the resemblance, check out the sarees and dress materials from Bengal, Mangalagiri, Banaras silk, Chanderi and Maheswari sarees and Pochampalli ranging from Rs.250 onwards and a binding array of tops, skirts, chaniya cholis, bed sheets and cushion covers. In the handicrafts section, beautiful rosewood carvings from Mysore have been kept on display. Pure sandalwood paste and powder are also available. Apart from this, the exhibition has stalls of Kondapally and Etikoppaka toys, leather puppets, Moradabad brass items, bell metal items, bead jewellery, jute bags ceramic paintings and terracotta magic lamps. The exhibition will be on till March 14, 2010.
