The Labour Department has announced merit scholarships for workers and their children who have passed SSC or technical courses during the year 2008-09. The application forms can be obtained from the Labour Office concerned according to KSVS Subba Rao, Assistant Commissioner, Circle II. Workers and their children, employed in shops and commercial establishments, religious and other trusts, who are subscribers to the Labour Welfare Fund are eligible and the last date for filled in applications is February 15.
The scholarship amount payable is as follows: SS and ITI gets Rs.500, Polytechnic gets Rs.750, Engineering and Medical, Law, B.Sc (Ag)(Vet) , BCA,MCA, B. Pharmacy, BBA and MBA gets Rs.1,000. The labour department will also sanction Rs.2,000 to workers for the first and second years as financial assistance under the Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1987 and Rs.3,000 to those workers who undergo family planning operation.
Applications for obtaining monetary assistance under these two scheme have to be submitted within the stipulated time frame. A financial assistance of Rs.10,000 would be provided for treatment of chronic diseases. This apart, an amount of Rs.3,000 would be sanctioned to the dependents of workers in the case of natural death and Rs.10,000 for accidental death.
