Maoists group appears to have participated in the kidnap operation

A Congress leader and former member of Koyyuru mandal was kidnapped by Maoists in the wee hours of Sunday. According to reliable sources says that nearly 12 member which included two women participated in the kidnap operation. Koyyuru Congress president and a popular leader in the area, Kone Somaih and former panchayat ward member of Makavaram, K Balaiah in two separate incidents after waking them up from their sleep. The distance between the two villages where they were staying was four to five kilometers.

The Superintendent of Police Vineet Brijlal said that according to information, the same group was involved in both the incidents and till late in the evening, no one has claimed ransom or made any other demands. In the first incident, a group of armed with sticks woke up Somaih at his home at Solabu village. Despite resistance from the family members, they were told to send him back after an hour. Immediately, the group went to the house of Balaiah at Makavaram village in Palasalapadu panchayat and forced him out of his bed. He is a relative of K Lakshmi, a Maoist, who was arrested a few days back.

The police suspect his involvement in alerting the police on her visit, the Maoists could have abducted him. The police suspect the involvement of some militia members. Due to rough terrain and darkness, search operations was conducted with the help of local tribals and a red alert has been sounded across the agency area.
