A Perspective on Vizag
National Anthem to be played on 60 keyboards simultaneously on February 28
Visakha City, February 21, 2010
Patriotic fervor will grip Tenneti Park with the sounds of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as 60 young musicians would render it on 60 keyboards on February 28. Composed by Rabindranath Tagore, Jana Gana Mana was adopted as the National Anthem of India on January 24, 1950. A formal rendition of National Anthem takes about 52 seconds. UNESCO also chose it as the World’s best National Anthem. This would be the first time so many same musical instruments were being used to play any National Anthem in the world. The use of 60 keyboards and 60 musicians was meant to commemorate the 60 years of adoption of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as our National Anthem, according to even organizers Sun Murthy of Creative Entertainers.
The event was being organized to promote the spirit of nationalism and to further the prestige of our National Anthem. 60 girls and boys of various schools, who are expert in keyboard players, have been selected for the programme. The 60 participants have been divided into three groups and each group would wear colours representing the National Tricolour.
The programme would begin with ‘Vande Mataram’ at 5pm on that day. Patriotic songs, dances, would follow it and presentation of group songs and the grand finale would be the render of ‘Jana Gana Mana’ by 60 young musicians on 60 keyboards at the same time. Students of various dance institutes in the city and other artistes would also participate in the programme.
