Jagadamba polygamist, abettor father nabbed in Chennai

Absconders were believed to be trying to escape to Singapore

II Town Police took into the custody owners of the famous Jagadamba theatres, V Jagadeesh and his father Rambabu and produced them before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Krupa Sagar on Sunday. Jagadeesh, who has been accused of polygamy and his father of abetment of the crime, had been absconding by one of the Jagadish’s wives’ Sandhya, in II Town police station. They were nabbed by task force police in Chennai on Saturday and brought to the city. The police said they worked out the whereabouts of the absconders by tracing their phone calls and then sent a special team to nab them. It is learnt from Chennai that they were trying to escape to Singapore.

According to II Town Circle Inspector SVV Prasada Rao, the duo, against whom cases had been booked under Sections 498A, 420 and 376 of IPC, had been sent to judicial remand until March 4 by the magistrate. Meanwhile, speaking to media, one J Harikrishna, a relative of Krishnaveni of Krishna District, one of those allegedly cheated by Jagadeesh appealed the police and the judiciary not to grant bail to the accused until the case was completed.

Harikrishna also demanded the second wife of Rambabu, Lakshmi Tulasi who is believed to have played a crucial role in trapping girls for Jagadeesh to marry also be arrested. The police are yet to move towards affecting any other related arrests in the case yet, but sources said they might consider arresting others involved in the next few days. Meanwhile, Venkata Rani, another one of the several women cheated by Jagadeesh, demanded that P Nagabushan and Madhubabu, owners of Panduranga Theatre, be arrested as they had arranged her marriage to Jagadeesh.
