Circumnavigation of the world is a test of human limits of endurance

Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Mhadei, in which a naval officer Dilip Dhonde is going round the world on sea under the Indian Navy's project of Sagar Parikarama, arrived at Port Stanley in Falkland Islands (UK) pm Friday after completing more than 14,000 nautical miles of voyage. Cdr. Dhonde left Christ Church in New Zealand on December 12, 2009 and travelled nearly 5,000 nautical miles in his third leg of his voyage, according to a press release from the Eastern Naval Command on Saturday.
The 56 foot sloop INSV Mhadei was flagged off from Mumbai on August 19, 2009 for a maiden attempt by an Indian to circumnavigate the world, in which less than 300 persons world over could succeed so far. Cdr. Dhonde would cover about 21,600 nautical miles during his voyage. He is likely to start his next leg of voyage on January 29 and his next port of call and the last en-route halt would be Cape Town in South Africa.
The circumnavigation of the world is an exercise that tests the human limits of endurance and tenacity and is challenge like no other, as the vagaries of the unpredictable weather to be faced by a lonely sailboat brings out the hum spirit says the ENC press release.
