GVMC Office, February 22, 2010

Apart from structures of residents along the Pendurty corridor of the BRTS, land of Navy and Railways is also to be taken for widening the road. The 20 km corridor is taken up under the JNNURM at a cost of Rs.159.38 crore and the flyover from Asilmetta to DRM’s office another Rs.63 crores. The other corridor is Simhachalam to Dwarakanagar via Pendurthy and Adavaviram and is taken up at an outlay of Rs.179.45 crores.

The GVMC officials have taken up joint survey along with the Commander (works) of the Navy at Marripalem. The Navy land falls into two categories viz., Military Engineering Services and the Navy quarters. Peg-marking fixing the boundaries has been done, says an official of the GVMC. However, the final approval has to come from the Defence Headquarters. However, the response form the Navy is positive says the official. The land issue has also been taken up with the Railways. The Railways has been insisting on land of equitable market value, which the GVMC finds difficult to provide. It is estimated that the Navy land is 1km along the corridor and that of Railways along 2km.

Around 1,000 properties, including encroachments will be affected in the widening of the road and creating the BRTS facilities. For structures, compensation will be given and for land transferable those falling within the BPL range houses will be provided and space in hawkers’ zone to be created.
