Union Minister for HRD Purandareswari asks officials to hold gram sabhas

Beneficiaries to be selected for various welfare schemes

Visakha City, February 10, 2010

The Minister for Human Resources Development, D Purandareswari on Wednesday directed the officials concerned to organize gram sabhas for selection of beneficiaries for various welfare schemes of the government. Reviewing implementation of welfare schemes like pensions, Indiramma housing programme and issue of ration cards, she directed the officials to ensure that no genuine person was denied the benefit.

Responding to MLA M Srinivasa Rao's complaint of irregularities in the execution of Indiramma housing scheme and delay in the inquiry, the Minister directed the Joint Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy to complete the enquiry at the earliest and take follow up action. She referred to the drinking water issue and wanted the officials concerned to ensure that there was no drinking water problem in the ensuing summer season.

Discontinuance of pensions to some beneficiaries in Anandapuram mandal was brought to the notice of the meeting by MPP president Gopi Babu, and the officials explained that pensions had been discontinued to persons without the smart card. However, the officials were instructed by the Joint Collector to furnish the details of the number of pensions released in December last and January.
