III Town police makes the arrest on Sunday
Visakha City, February 21, 2010
The III Town police on Sunday arrested the postmaster of the sub-post office at Sector XI of MVP Colony B Narasimha Prasad and watchman G Veerraju. The arrest followed investigation into a complaint by the postmaster that theft of Rs.1,11,065 was committed in the post office on December 6 by some persons and records were burnt after tying up the watchman.
The probe revealed that the postmaster had allegedly misappropriated Rs.50,89,191 while paying bond amounts to depositors. He had done this since 1988 and to cover it up, he ‘cooked up’ the theft and burning of records in connivance with the watchman.
III Town Police Circle Inspector PVK Varma and Sub Inspector (Crime) PVV Narasimha Rao carried out the investigation under the supervision of DCP (Crime) J Brahma Reddy.
