The District Collector, J Shyamala Rao on Saturday said that the district administration would soon implement e-muter rolls under NRGES in all the mandals of the district. Currently, the e-muster rolls programme is implemented in Andapuram mandal on a pilot basis. Henceforth, it would be extended to all mandals to reduce the chances of any corruption, he said. Speaking media persons, Syamala Rao said that the district administration would also initiate steps to tackle the increasing number of deaths on the city’s picturesque beaches.
An observation would soon be erected at the RK beach so that the tourists can be extended help and swimmers warned of their safety. The Collector also said that 12 lifeguards would be pressed into service at the RK Beach alone, which has been registering number of cases of deaths due to drowning. The administration identified potential risk points on all the beaches up to Bhimili and would soon press lifeguards at those places.
The District Collector had earlier enquired from the Eastern Naval Command about the possibility of operating the international airport at the naval alert Native Base in S Rayavaram mandal. However, the Commander C Satish of the ENC had informed that having a civilian air station at the site would not be feasible on principle, the Collector revealed. Visakhapatnam Airport Controller Pattabhi said the international airport would require at least 5000 acres of land, the Collector directed the District Revenue Officer D Venkat Reddy to identify the required land and submit a detailed proposal.
