Memos served for roughing up Anganwadi women
Police Commissionerate, February 18, 2010
The City Police Commissioner, N Sambasiva Rao, taking a serious view of the police excesses against the Anganwadi women who were demonstrating near the Collectorate, issued charge memos to Circle Inspectors on Wednesday. The Commissioner issued the memos to III Town Circle Inspector, PV Krishna Verma and IV Town Circle Inspector DLN Varma for what he said was their inefficiency in dealing with the protest.
The Police Commissioner, speaking to media said he had also ordered an inquiry by DCP (Law and Order) Gopala Rao into the incident. He assured the people that soon as the report was tabled, he would initiate necessary action against all those found guilty or inconsiderate to women and causing injuries to them.
He said he had spoken with the District Collector and they arrived at a new working arrangement on dealing with such matters. The Collector will be informed, in advance, of the day's dharnas or protests planned near the Collectorate for better diffusing the crisis.
Meanwhile, AIDWA demanded judicial probe into the incident.
