Nearly Rs.20 lakh property lost when the store caught fire

The famous Bombay Gas Agencies store in the city sustained heavy loss as it caught fire late Thursday evening. However, there was no causality as the incident occurred after the shop was closed. At around 9.30pm, passersby saw smoke billowing from the shop near Asilmetta junction. The store was close at around 9.15pm. After being informed, two fire engines were pressed into service to fight the fire which had engulfed most parts of the store.
The fire personnel broke open the store entrance and starting dousing it. They finally brought it under control and prevented it from spreading to adjacent shops. The fire fighting personnel said that the fire might have started due to a short circuit in the shop soon after refrained from confirming anything.
Meanwhile, the shop owner, who rushed to the shop also ventured into the store after the flames were brought under control. He estimated the loss to be around Rs.20 lakhs.
