Warns common man of getting hit due to the decision
Visakha City, February 6, 2010
The Andhra Pradesh Auto Drivers and Workers Federation has demanded that the Centre should give up the proposal to hike the prices of petrol and diesel. Federation general secretary GV Murty noted that auto rickshaw drivers were already overburdened by the hike in road tax, insurance and increase in the cost of spare parts and any increase in fuel prices cripple them.
The oil hike would not only affect commuters but also impact the common man due to cascading effect which would result in a hike in the prices of all essential commodities. He recalled the election promises made by the Congress that it would not hike the prices of essential commodities or increase taxes for the next five years. It has gone back on its promise and increased the prices even before it completed its first year in power.
He warned that the people would no longer tolerate the undue affection being shown to big investors through extension of various concessions while taxing the common man. He demanded that the local MPs and MLAs should exert pressure on the government in Parliament and Assembly to withdraw the proposal.
