Strong motivation is required for addicts to kick the habit, says VPT Chairman

State Bank of India launched an alcohol de-addiction campaign in association with Visakhapatnam Port Trust on Saturday. The programme was inaugurated by Visakhaptanm Port Trust Chairman, Ajeya Kallam at State Bank of India , VPT branch. SBI General Manger TS Krishshnaswamy was the guest of honor.
The programme taken up under the community service banking involves formation of voluntary groups by people willing to give up the habit under the supervision of Alcoholics Anonymous, a voluntary organization. The process involves sharing experiences among the people who are addicted to drinking and ex-alcoholics the will power to give the habit.
Ajeya Kallam said that strong motivation was required for the addicts to give up drinking. He said involvement in religious, spiritual social and sports activities would help many to stay away from alcohol. Krishna Swamy said the bad habits destroy people and reiterated the bank’s commitment to serve society with social responsibility. VPT Medical Officer, G Ramanjaneyulu said the port was involved in de-addiction since 1987. Members from Alcoholics Anonymous said the support and encouragement from members was required to help the addicted persons to give up the habit.
