Visakhapatnam gets the first Passport Seva Kendra of Andhra Pradesh. 77 PSKs planned in India, 6 more to come up in Andhra Pradesh

Visakha City, August 5, 2011

Visakhapatnam became proud for having the first Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in the state of Andhra Pradesh when it was inaugurated by the Chief Passport Officer K Pardeshi. Designed with a citizen-centric approach, the PSK was designed in public-private partnership (PPP) approach with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as a partner. This is something rare that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has done.

The Ministry is planning to have 77 PSK's in the near future, the first being the one that started functioning in Bangalore in 2010. While 2 centres will be in Visakhapatnam, as many 6 more are planned in Andhra Pradesh, said Hyderabad Regional Passport Officer K Srikar Reddy.

The Visakhapatanam Passport Office has the distinction of issuing over 90,000 passports in 2008. Earlier in 2000 it was hailed as the Best Passport Office in the country despite having a huge shortage of manpower.

Head of Passport Wing of TCS, Rajesh Dogra, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner J Purnachandra Rao, VUDA Vice-Chairman K Sasidhar, Post-Master General of Visakhapatnam Region Chandra Prakash and others were present at the program.
