Visakhapatnam Steel Plant commissions various auxiliary units. Officials of Union Steel Ministry present on the occasion.

The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in a bid to support its production functions has installed various auxiliary units necessary for the production. These units are necessary so as to reach the production target of 6.3 million tonnes of steel. The coke oven boosting station was inaugurated by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director P K Bishnoi. The unit boosts CO gas pressure of 500-600 mmWC to 1500 mmWC and caters to the CO gas requirements of the expansion units.

Machendranath inaugurated the new gas mixing station where different gases are mixed and homogenised. Machendranath is the Additional Secretary and Financial Advistor to the Ministry of Steel. The project has been executed by M/s Instrumentation Limited of Kota and associates at a cost of around Rs 10 Crores.

Independent Directors A P V N Sarma, Swash Pawan Singh, SH S Chahar, U D Choubey and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Steel Dalip Singh inaugurated various units of the steel plant. Other officials of the Ministry and the steel plant are present on the occasion.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has a planned and proposed for increasing the capacity from existing 3.6MT to 6.3MT by 2019-20 as envisaged by the National Steel Policy. The clearance for the same was obtained on October 28, 2005. On 11th Feb.’2006. M/s MN Dastur Co was appointed as Consultant for the Expansion Project. On 20th May, Honorable Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched the expansion project of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant from a capacity of 3.6MT to 6.3MT at a cost of Rs. 8,692 Crores (Base June 05).
