Visakha Utsav 2011 to be held in December

The Annual Visakha Utsav festival will be held in December for the first time in five years. A meeting was held at the Collector's Office which was attended by District Administration officials and important personalities.

Planning to conduct the Visakha Utsav on a grand scale is underway. A meeting was held to discuss about the planning and arrangements of the Visakha Utsav that is scheduled to be held during December. Speaking at a meeting held at the District Collectorate, Collector Lav Agarwal said that the celebrations should reflect the city's importance and its beauty. He said that the festival should also promote tourism besides reflecting the culture of the district. This is the first time the Visakha Utsav will be conducted in the last four to five years.

Several important personalities of the district were present in the meeting and gave their inputs and suggestions on how to make the festival a success. Municipal Commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu suggested that the festival should include programmes by cultural associations including artists from other States in the country, artistes, writers etc. Visakhapatnam South MLA Dronamraju Srinivas expressed his delight in resuming the Visakha Utsav festival. He suggested that artistes from all-India cultural associations should be invited. He also assured to make efforts to make Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy attend the festival. A power-point presentation on the planning of programmes, exhibition, placement of stalls etc. was given by DPRO A Babji.

Collector Lav Agarwal, GVMC Commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu, VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar, Joint Collector M Girija Sankar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Balakrishna, Additional Joint Collector S Satyanarayana, Assistant Collector (under training) D Harichandana and MLAs Dronamraju Srinivas and Tynala Vijaya Kumar were present at the meeting.
