Use of plastic bags banned from August 1. Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu warns of strict action.

Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu said that strict action would be taken against vendors who sell plastic bags from August 1st onwards. Ban on use of plastic carry bags will come into force on the 1st of next month onwards.
At a meeting of zone commissioners and assistant medical officers, the Municipal Commissioner warned that licenses of shops using plastic bags would be cancelled and hefty fines would be imposed. Raids would also be conducted against plastic bag manufacturers and stockists.
Awareness to people on the damage to the environment by the use of plastic will be given by an extensive campaign through advertisements in cinema theatres, TV and FM radio.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in Hyderabad has enforced a similar ban on plastic from July 1st onwards.
