Visakha City, September 10, 2011
The Maharshi Foundation on the KGH road has opened a tele-counselling centre to help prevent suicides. The centre was inaugurated by Andhra Medical College Principal K Vishnu Prasad coinciding with the World Suicide Prevention Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu Prasad said that it has been scientifically proved that counselling at the exact time when a person decides to commit suicide would help prevent 70 per cent of the suicides. He said that members of joint families have good and strong relationships among them, but in the modern era people are living in nuclear families and are not even finding time for other members. This leads to depression forcing people to take out their lives by committing suicide.
Andhra Medical College Vice-Principle N N Raju who was also present at the inauguration said that suicide rates have been increasing in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. The tele-counselling centre would be open from 10 am to 4 pm from Monday to Saturday initially. The centre is located at Surya Prabha Paradise on KGH Road.
