Union Minister of State Daggubati Purandeswari inaugurates the two-day convention of Walkers International. She stresses the importance of brisk walking in our everyday life.

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Daggubati Purandeswari inaugurated the two-day silver jubilee year convention of Walkers International at the Port Kalavani auditorium. Speaking on the occasion, Purandeswari said that brisk walking should be a part of our daily life. She point out that we are subjected to different kinds of stress while attending to our day to day affairs. She added that walking is one of the best forms of exercise.
Former Rector of Andhra University A Prasanna Kumar said that we had great walkers in the history of India. Speaking on the occasion, Prasanna Kumar cited the examples of Lord Rama and Mahatma Gandhi as great walkers India had ever produced. He said that while Mahatma Gandhi walked for peace, Gautama Buddha walked for compassion, Adi Shankaracharya walked for integration and Jesus Christ walked to heal.
Popular playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam said that exercise should not be considered just an exercise programme, it is a cultural and social balancing item. He said that our elders did not face much of health problems because walking was part of their daily activity.
