CPI State Secretary K Narayana demands arrest of Ministers and Government officials involved in liquor mafia
Visakha City, December 20, 2011
CPI State Secretary K Narayana said that the liquor mafia is threatening the democracy in the State and is almost running a parallel Government. Militant agitation seems to be the only way to counter the liquor mafia in the State, he said, adding that their party would support those who attack the liquor shops. Speaking to reporters, Narayana said that the Communist Party of India has been opposing the Excise policy from the time it was introduced. He said that the CPI always wanted the Government to run liquor shops instead of allotting them through auction process.
Narayana demanded the arrests of Ministers involved in the liquor mafia along with the Government officials who are corrupt. He said that the officials were arrested, while Ministers escape from punishment. The liquor lobby is earning Rs. 40,000-45,000 crore rupees which is more than the license fee collected by the Government during the auctioning, he said.
Some Ministers were alleged to be involved in the liquor lobby and were earning thousands of crores of rupees through commissions. The Telugu Desam Party also demanded the ACB report on the recent raids to be released to the public. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad, demanded the Chief Minister to answer the questions posed to him in this regard by the public. The TDP president also demanded stringent action against liquor syndicates.
