GVMC Office, October 27, 2011

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) which made a portion of the beach road a 'No-Vehicle Zone' between 5am and 7:30am, wants to set an example of raising awareness on vehicular pollution by not using vehicles once a week. The GVMC officials and employees are expected to use public transport, bicycles or walk down to office and even for field visits.

Since Monday being the day of grievances of the GVMC, all employees would be present in the office and gives a chance for them not to use their personal vehicles or the ones provided by the corporation.

In a meeting chaired by the Commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu, he made it clear to the employees to take up the exercise voluntarily, but not with the fear of somebody watching them. He said that the entire exercise is aimed at reducing vehicular pollution as well as helping in healthy living by physical exercise.
