Commissioner of Police J Purnachandra Rao launches 'Lane Discipline' in Vizag

Visakha City, January 20, 2012

Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police J Purnachandra Rao launched the 'lane discipline', a traffic regulation system on the National Highway No. 5 that runs through the city. The 'lane discipline' concept bifurcates the road into two traffic lanes. The right lane should be used by four wheelers including heavy vehicles, while two wheelers and three wheelers should stick to the left lane. Addressing a press conference, the Commissioner said that motorists were indulging in 'snake' driving penetrating into every corner of the road just to overtake other vehicles. It is creating a confusion among other motorists and is resulting in chaos.

The 'lane discipline' system is enforced from Friday onwards in the 26km stretch from Hanumanthawaka to Kurmannapalem from 7am to 9 pm. Special traffic police personnel will monitor the effective implementation of the system. 24 constables will be deployed at 12 main signal points and 20 additional constables will also be deployed. A mobile police unit will be given secret cameras who will track down the violators.

After the press conference, the Commissioner himself handed over the handbills explaining the concept to motorists at Maddilapalem. ADCP V Suresh Babu, East Traffic CI D Rajeswara Rao, South Traffic CI Y Govinda Rao, Gajuwaka CI Kalidasu, Fourth town traffic SI Tirumala Rao, Third town traffic SI BMD Prasad and others were present.
