Andhra University 68th & 69th Convocation held. Earth Commission Chairman Shailesh Nayak delivers convocational address.

The 68th & 69th Convocation of the Andhra University was held on June 13, 2011. Andhra University Chancellor and Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan presided over the convocation. AU Vice Chancellor Beela Satyanarayana gave a report on the activities of the University since the last convocation that was held on May 15, 2010. Chairman of Earth Commission and Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Earth Sciences Shailesh Nayak gave his Convocational address on climate change and energy - present and future challenges.
Delivery his address, Nayak attributed to rapid industrialization and increased energy usage according to our lifestyles as the reason for climate change during the last 100 years. He said that 65% of world's energy needs are met by using coal, oil and gas and stressed the needed for sustainable habitat that was energy efficient. He highlighted the need to switch to alternative power sources such as wind energy, nuclear fission and fusion energy to meet the ever increasing energy demand. He said that water cycle will be impacted due to climate change and this will have many consequences.
Nayak was presented the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science. The Vice Chancellor also presented PhDs, MPhil Degrees, Cash prizes to graduating students and gold medals. Registrar P V G D Prasad Reddy was also present on the occasion.
